1. Acceptance of these terms
By using the Car Boot Directory website (carbootdirectory.co.uk) or our Android app, Carboot Directory UK, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or the app. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, form a binding agreement between you and Car Boot Directory. "The service" below means the website, the app and the API behind them.
2. About our service
Car Boot Directory is a directory of UK car boot sales, markets and boot fairs. We are a directory, not an event organiser. We do not run, host or manage any of the sales listed. Our service includes:
- Hand-checked listings with times, prices and maps
- Search and near me functionality
- User-submitted listings, reviews, corrections and reports
- Guides and articles about car booting
- The app, with optional accounts, saved sales and notifications
We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service at any time.
3. User submissions
You do not need an account to use the website or to browse the app. When you add a sale, leave a review, suggest a correction or report a problem, whether on the website or in the app, you must provide accurate information. You must be 18 or over to submit a sale as an organiser. We check submissions by hand before publishing and may decline, edit or remove any submission at our discretion. Submissions from the app are moderated in exactly the same way as those from the website.
4. User accounts
The app lets you create an optional account to save sales and receive notifications. If you do, you agree that:
- The details you give us are accurate and kept up to date
- You will have one account per person and will not share it
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity on your account
- You are 16 or over
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, is used for spam or abuse, or has been inactive for a long period. You can delete your account at any time; see Delete your account and data.
5. User content (listings, reviews, photos)
When you submit a listing, review, correction or photo, you confirm that you have the right to share that content and that it is accurate and not misleading. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, edit, adapt and promote it on the website, in the app and through our API, for as long as we run the service. You keep ownership of your content. If you delete your account, approved public reviews stay published but are anonymised, so they are no longer linked to you. We may review, edit or remove any user content that breaches these Terms.
6. Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Submit false or misleading listings, reviews, corrections or reports
- Post offensive, defamatory or illegal content
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) on the website, app or API without our written permission
- Attempt to hack, overload or interfere with the website, app or API
- Use the service for spam or commercial advertising without our consent
- Create more than one account, or an account for someone else
7. The app
7.1 Licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use the app on an Android device you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these Terms and Google Play's terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile or redistribute the app except where the law allows.
7.2 Our API and app key
The app talks to our public API using an app key that belongs to us. The key is issued for the app only. You may not extract it, use it in other software, or scrape or bulk-download data through the API. We may rotate or revoke the key, rate-limit requests, or block access at any time, which may stop older versions of the app from working.
7.3 Updates and minimum version
We may release updates that add, change or remove features, and we may set a minimum supported version. If your version is below the minimum, the app may ask you to update before it will continue to work. Some updates may be needed for security or to keep working with our API.
7.4 Third-party services in the app
The app relies on services provided by others, each under their own terms:
- Google Play: the app is distributed through Google Play and your use of it is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.
- Firebase: sign-in, accounts, notifications and optional analytics are provided by Google Firebase; see our Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap: map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap and CARTO under their usage policies.
We are not responsible for those services and they may change or become unavailable.
8. Intellectual property
All original content in the website and app, including design, text, logos, the app itself and compiled listing data, belongs to Car Boot Directory. You may not copy or reuse it without permission. Map data is provided by third parties under their own licences, as described above.
9. Accuracy of information
We hand-check every listing, but car boot sale details such as dates, times, entry fees and pitch prices can change at short notice. Always confirm important details directly with the organiser before travelling. See our Disclaimer for full details.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from inaccurate or outdated information, cancelled or changed sales, your visit to any listed location, or technical issues with the website, app or API. The app is provided "as is" and we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The new version will be posted here with an updated date, and the app links to this page. Continued use of the website or app after changes means you accept the new Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also be entitled to bring a claim in your local courts.
