1. Delete your account in the app
The quickest way is from inside the Carboot Directory UK Android app:
- Open the app and tap More
- Tap Account
- Tap Delete account and confirm
You may be asked to sign in again first, so we can be sure it is you. Deletion takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
2. Request deletion by email
If you no longer have the app installed, or cannot sign in, email us at [email protected] with the subject line Account deletion, or use our contact page. Please write from the email address on the account, or tell us the phone number or Google account you signed in with, so we can find it. We will confirm your identity if we need to, delete the account, and reply to let you know. Email requests are completed within 30 days.
3. What is deleted
- Your Firebase sign-in (email and password, Google sign-in link, or phone number)
- Your profile: display name, email address, phone number, home postcode and preferences
- Your saved (favourite) sales
- Your alert preferences and any push notification device tokens
Data cached on your device (listings, favourites, recent searches and settings) is cleared when you uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android settings.
4. What is kept
- Reviews you have written that were approved and published stay on the website and in the app, but are anonymised so they are no longer linked to you or your name
- Moderation logs for submissions and reviews are kept for 12 months for spam prevention and to deal with disputes, then deleted
- Sale listings you submitted as an organiser remain in the directory, as they describe a public event rather than you
- Anything we are required by law to keep
If you also want to stop email alerts, use the unsubscribe link in any alert email; alert subscriptions are separate from your app account.
5. Timing
Deletion from inside the app is immediate. Email requests are handled within 30 days, usually much sooner. Copies in our short-term backups expire within a further 30 days.
