Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market is set in the Inner Close beside the medieval cathedral and is regularly named one of the best Christmas markets in Europe. Wooden chalets sell handmade gifts, decorations and seasonal food and drink, and visitors can also step inside the cathedral to explore more than 1,000 years of history or attend Advent and Christmas services. In 2026 the market runs every day from Friday 20 November to Tuesday 22 December.
The market opens at 10am every day and closes at 6pm from Sunday to Thursday and at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is free and no pre-booking is needed. There are three entrances: through Curles Passage to the right of the cathedral (the busiest), from Colebrook Street, and from St Swithun's Street. Weekends can be very crowded, so the cathedral recommends a weekday visit if you are bringing a dog, pushchair or wheelchair. Details confirmed on the organiser's website, October 2026.
